When planning to have a small, intimate wedding, searching for the right venue can be overwhelming as many options are built for large-scale soirees. Nestled amidst the oak trees on the fringes of the historic Town of Tarboro is Oak Grove Retreat and Saint Anne’s Chapel—the perfect location for a charming wedding for you and those closest to you.

“Oak Grove Retreat and Saint Anne’s Chapel is a place where love is love,” said owner Kevin Wilson.

Kevin and his wife, Tricia, purchased the Gothic-Revival style chapel and 25-acre property in 1999. Saint Anne’s Chapel had been de-consecrated and abandoned in 1960 and sat in disrepair with tilted floors, broken glass, and overgrown fields. The Chapel had a hidden stained-glass window depicting the Ascension of Christ. The Wilson's repaired the Chapel and turned the property into an attractive, sought-after destination for love and peace.

Oak Grove and Saint Anne’s Chapel, with its historic charm and wide-open spaces, offers couples a blank canvas to design the wedding of their dreams. From a chapel ceremony and an outdoor reception to an outdoor ceremony and an indoor sit-down dinner, the options are endless. As a bonus, the property can be adjusted to work with any size budget making this site one of the most customizable venues on the market.

While the property can best serve smaller, intimate wedding parties of up to 100 guests, with rates beginning at $500 for six hours, it has hosted larger weddings of up to 250 guests. Additional amenities can be incorporated in the rental package and include the following: changing suites with bathrooms; large manor-house front porch; barns, woods, and surrounding meadows; sustainable composting toilets; and photography backdrop locations. Landscaped grounds and plenty of onsite parking is also available.

“Oak Grove has endless potential. Every event is different and filled with details that represent the couple,” said Wilson. “As creative people by nature, Tricia and I wanted to give couples a place to plan their dream event just the way they wanted it.”
