"We Can Do Better" Movie Screening

A documentary film about a win over environmental

racism in Kingsboro, North Carolina

In 1995, Tarboro attorney Marvin V. Horton uncovered a plan of Iowa Beef Processors, Inc.,

(IBP) to locate a giant hog slaughterhouse in the predominantly Black community of

Kingsboro. Concerned residents formed the Citizens for Responsible Zoning and organized

a mass effort to stop IBP, which forced Edgecombe County Commissioners to vote down the

IBP bid. We Can Do Better, by filmmaker Frederick Murphy, tells this story.
