About the event

As a Certified Death Doula, Cheri understands the needs and fears of people facing death. Her background in education and business allow her to hold space for people and their families facing death and dying. She provides services for those people and pets who are dying. Non Medical services such as: respite care, transportation to appointments, errands, legacy documents, legal documents, trip companionship and caregiver support. Everyone deserves respect and advocacy during the dying process. And there is not better time than the present to spend a few moments considering the options.

Topics for discussion:

1. We all face death. Prior to the Civil War Death was handled by families. Today 70% of people surveyed want to die at home, yet only 31% actually die at home.

2. Death itself is a process. Thinking of death in this way (as a series of events), dying makes it easier to understand the changes your body goes through to transition from life to death. “From your first breath to your last, your existence depends on processes your body sets into motion. Dying is the final essential process your body carries out for you.” (Cleveland Clinic)

3. Modern funerals are expensive and strangers take care of the body.

4. Green burials are completed by family and friends.

5. Death Doula’s may hold space for the dying without judgment and biases. A death doula does not provide medical care. Services Provided may include, respite care, transportation to appointments, death vigils, legacy planning, vacation companionship, legal document assistants, and more depending on the needs of the dying.
